Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are working on establishing a joint venture to carry out dredging operations in the Caspian Sea. The initiative aims to support the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, and increase its capacity.

According to the plans, the joint entity will be responsible for maintaining required water depths in port basins, ensuring the safe and uninterrupted operation of navigation, and optimizing logistics processes.

The project also includes modernization of infrastructure along the Trans-Caspian route, development of ports, priority services for liner shipping, implementation of a unified tariff system, and integrated documentation for rail and maritime transport. The introduction of a “single window” principle and digital management systems in logistics is also planned.

A key component of the initiative is the creation of a unified logistics operator to coordinate the entire transport chain. This system is expected to accelerate cargo handling, reduce operational costs, and improve transparency in transportation processes.

The project is being developed following instructions issued during the President’s visit to Azerbaijan on March 11–12, 2024. According to official assessments, the initiative will strengthen the role of the Trans-Caspian corridor in the global logistics system and expand the region’s transit potential.
