More than 1,700 passengers and crew members aboard the “Ambition” cruise ship operated by Ambassador Cruise Line have been placed under temporary quarantine in the port of Bordeaux, France, amid suspicions of a norovirus outbreak.

After the vessel docked on May 12, around 50 people reportedly developed acute gastrointestinal symptoms consistent with infection. Most of the affected passengers are British and Irish nationals. Disembarkation has been suspended, and contact with port personnel has been restricted.

Medical teams were deployed to the ship, and laboratory samples have been collected to determine the exact source of the outbreak. Authorities stated that the situation is under control and results will be released after analysis.

On May 11, a 92-year-old British passenger died of a heart attack onboard. Officials have not confirmed any direct link between the death and the suspected virus.

The cruise, which departed from Scotland and was en route to Spain, has been temporarily suspended. Authorities emphasized that the incident is not connected to similar infections reported on other vessels.
