Relative increase observed in tanker traffic

Despite the blockade and ongoing security risks in the Strait of Hormuz, the highest number of tankers in the past nine days transited the strait yesterday.

This was reported by maritime tracking service Kpler.

According to the report, on May 11 a total of 10 vessels carrying dry cargo, liquefied gas, petroleum products, and grain passed through the Strait of Hormuz. This marks the highest daily figure since May 2, when 14 vessels were recorded.

Of the vessels that transited the strait, five departed from the Gulf while the other five entered it. Seven of the ships were transporting dry cargo, liquefied gas, clean petroleum products, and grain.

Most of the vessels operated between Iran, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman. It was also reported that the tankers Star Nasia from Argentina and Star Despoina from Canada were delivering grain to Iran.

Nevertheless, overall vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains approximately 95% below the levels recorded before the US–Iran confrontation.
