Explosion on South Korean ship in Hormuz: no casualties reported

No crew members were injured following an explosion and subsequent fire aboard the South Korean company-owned cargo vessel HMM Namu in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 24-member crew includes six South Korean nationals, while the remaining personnel are citizens of other countries.

The fire has since been fully extinguished. Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage, and plans are underway to tow the vessel to a nearby port for repairs. The exact cause of the incident will be determined following investigations.

The explosion reportedly occurred in the engine room on the evening of May 4. South Korea’s Maritime Ministry is investigating the possibility of an attack. U.S. President Donald Trump also commented on the situation, claiming that similar incidents have recently occurred against several countries in the region.
