The liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker MT Sarv Shakti, sailing under the Marshall Islands flag and carrying cargo for India, has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz.
The vessel, operated by a 20-member crew including 18 Indian nationals, is carrying 46,313 tonnes of LNG. It is reported to have passed through the strait on May 2 and is expected to arrive at India’s Visakhapatnam port on May 13.
Amid ongoing regional tensions, some tankers have faced security risks while navigating the Strait of Hormuz. However, the passage of MT Sarv Shakti was completed without incident.
It is noted that Iran had previously stated that friendly countries were permitted transit through the strait, with Russia, India, Iraq, China, and Pakistan included in this list.
According to shipping documents, India’s state-owned company Indian Oil Corp. is listed as the cargo recipient. The voyage is considered one of the largest LNG shipments carried out under current conflict conditions.
