A cargo vessel sailing under the Cameroon flag, named “Ninova,” has run aground near the town of Karasu in Turkey’s Sea of Marmara.
According to the İhlas News Agency, the vessel is carrying eight crew members. Coast Guard units have been dispatched to the scene, and operations are underway to evacuate the crew and refloat the ship.
The 83-meter-long vessel reportedly lost control due to adverse weather conditions affecting navigation in the Sea of Marmara. Following a distress signal sent by the captain, coast guard boats and a tugboat were immediately directed to the area.
There has been no official confirmation yet regarding possible injuries.
It is noted that meteorological authorities had previously issued warnings about deteriorating weather conditions in northwestern Turkey, including the Marmara region, starting from April 30.
