Maritime traffic in both directions through the Dardanelles Strait has been temporarily suspended due to a malfunction on the oil tanker “Zephyr Prosper,” which was sailing from Russia to the port of Kocaeli, Türkiye under the Barbados flag.

The Press Service of the Turkish Coast Guard reported the incident.

The vessel—owned by a company operating three tugboats—is receiving assistance while en route from Russia to Kocaeli. The 274-meter-long tanker suffered an engine failure near Kilitbahir, within the Dardanelles Strait. For safety reasons, maritime traffic in both directions through the strait has been temporarily halted.

Open-source data indicates that the “Zephyr Prosper” was built in 2004. The vessel has a total length of 274.2 meters, a beam of 48 meters, and a deadweight tonnage of 150,000 tons.
