Starting from May 1, China will fully exempt imports from African countries that maintain diplomatic relations with Beijing from import tariffs.
As part of this new step aimed at expanding China–Africa economic relations, the zero-tariff regime will cover 20 African countries.
Previously, China had already suspended import tariffs for 33 least developed African countries since December 2024. With the latest decision, this mechanism is now being expanded into a broader framework covering all African countries with diplomatic ties.
The new policy will remain in force for two years.
This decision reflects China’s intention to further deepen trade relations with African markets. By facilitating access to the Chinese market through a zero-tariff regime, new opportunities may emerge, particularly for export-oriented sectors in Africa.
The announcement also indicates that Beijing is seeking to expand economic cooperation with Africa not only through political statements but also through concrete trade mechanisms.
