The “STS-45” (Ship-to-Shore) quay crane, built by the Zirə Marine Industrial Complex, was fully prepared for operation and officially commissioned at the end of last year.

STS (Ship-to-Shore) cranes are currently manufactured by only six countries worldwide. Azerbaijan has now become the seventh country to join this list. The crane meets international standards and is entirely domestically produced. Its design and construction were carried out at the Zirə Port’s production facilities by local skilled specialists. Thanks to advanced technologies applied in its electrical and automation systems, the crane ensures high energy efficiency and top-level operational safety. In addition, automation system components were supplied by the German company Schneider Electric.

The STS-45 crane is faster and more durable than existing models:

  • Handling capacity: 30–40 containers/hour
  • Gantry travel speed: 20 m/min
  • Hoisting speed: 18 m/min
  • Trolley travel speed: 25.2 m/min
  • Lifting height: 18 m
  • Lowering depth: 6 m
  • Cycle time: 2.5 minutes per cycle

The gantry movement is powered by eight 11 kW asynchronous motors, while the hoisting system operates with two 90 kW asynchronous motors equipped with four drums. Depending on track length, the crane can operate over a distance of up to 300 meters.

All electronic equipment and the control software used in the crane comply with global standards and provide strong potential for integration into future port infrastructure.

The crane is expected to bring new momentum to logistics development in the Caspian region and further strengthen Azerbaijan’s position on the global industrial map.

It should also be noted that Zirə Port possesses a robust transport and logistics infrastructure. To ensure efficient service operations, a dedicated railway line has been integrated into the port.
