KazMunayGas, BP to Conduct Joint Exploration in Kazakhstan

KazMunayGas (KMG) and British BP have identified subsoil plots and plan to get a contract for exploration and production of hydrocarbons in Kazakhstan, Dastan Abdulgafarov, deputy chairman of the KMG’s board for strategy, investment and business development, told Forbes Kazakhstan.

“At the beginning of 2020, an agreement of intent was signed with BP, within which BP expresses its readiness to conduct exploration and production jointly with KMG in Kazakhstan. Areas of mutual interest were identified, an assessment was conducted and negotiations are planned to be held with a view to obtaining an exploration and production contract,” said Abdulgafarov.In 2009, the British concern BP sold all assets in Kazakhstan – a stake in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) and Tengizchevroil. The company focused on work in Russia and Azerbaijan.
