Anaklia port is of strategic importance for us and we’ll do our best  for Georgia to have a deep sea port, Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze told journalists.

Report informs that, according to Bakhtadze, without the sea port Georgia will not be able to fully realize its transit potential: “Therefore, this project is of strategic importance. Anaklia project has to be implemented.”

The groundbreaking ceremony for Anaklia port was laid in 2007 and it is planned to be launched in 2021. Due to the difference of opinions between the government and investors in the recent years, the project would reportedly be delayed.

The Baku International Sea Trade Port and Anaklia port signed a memorandum of cooperation in 2017.

French company Eiffage SA has become the general builder of Anaklia deep sea port.
