In Northern Cyprus, the detention period for nine individuals—including three Azerbaijani citizens—arrested in connection with the shipwreck investigation off the coast of Girne has been extended by an additional seven days.

Sea-news.az reports that Orkhan Hasanoglu, Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Cyprus Friendship Society, conveyed the update to “Report” news agency.

The next court hearing in the ongoing judicial proceedings is scheduled for November 13.

It should be recalled that on August 30, a fatal shipwreck off the coast of Girne in Northern Cyprus resulted in 26 fatalities, while 239 passengers were successfully rescued. Search operations remain underway for one passenger who remains unaccounted for. A total of nine individuals, including three Azerbaijani nationals, were detained in connection with the maritime disaster.
