“The Middle Corridor must be commercially attractive for all participants.”
Sea-news.az reports these views were expressed by Natalie Mouravidze, Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Resident Office in Azerbaijan, during the European Union–Azerbaijan Business Forum.
She stated that the long-term success of the corridor depends on generating sufficient cargo volumes and business opportunities for infrastructure owners, operators, logistics providers, business entities, and investors:
“This is precisely one of the key areas where multilateral development banks can add value. We do not limit ourselves to financing alone. We support reforms, assist in project preparation, and act as a bridge between investors, infrastructure owners, regulatory bodies, and governments.
While developing transport connections, we must remember that these opportunities are not limited strictly to cargo transit. When aligned with broader sustainable development and energy transition goals, the Middle Corridor can become a real driving force for economic transformation across the wider region.”
The official emphasized that the greatest opportunity lies in transforming the Middle Corridor from merely a transit route into a full-fledged economic corridor:
“Joint action by private capital, governments, and development institutions like ours can yield the greatest results in this very direction.”
