An explosion and fire have broken out onboard an oil tanker that struck a sea mine in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in fatalities.
Sea-news.az reports that this was stated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in a statement to the Fars News Agency.
According to the report, the tanker turned off its automatic identification system while transiting the strait in violation of transit regulations set by Iran. Consequently, the vessel struck a sea mine, triggering an explosion and fire in its engine room.
The IRGC urged all vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf not to disable their navigation and identification systems, warning that they would otherwise face severe measures.
