The drinking water production plant utilizing Caspian Sea water desalination is expected to produce 300,000 cubic meters of water daily. The implementation of the project will not impact water tariffs for consumers.
Sea-news.az reports this was stated by Turkan Vusat, Head of the Public-Private Partnership Sector of the Project Management Department at the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
She noted that an agreement regarding the construction of the plant was signed in September last year with a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power.
Currently, the winning company is conducting negotiations with international financial institutions and banks. Financial talks are scheduled to conclude either by the end of this year or in the first quarter of next year.
“Carrying out certain analyses required by banks takes time. Construction work will commence once financial negotiations are finalized. The construction of the plant is slated for completion within two and a half years. Following its launch, ACWA Power will operate the plant for 25 years,” T. Vusat noted.
The sector head emphasized that water produced at the plant will be delivered to consumers at existing tariffs.
“This will not affect tariffs. Water produced at this plant will follow the exact same tariffs we pay today. Should any difference arise, it will be covered by the state,” she added.
