The French Navy has intercepted the oil tanker “DF Peak,” suspected of belonging to the “shadow fleet,” in the Indian Ocean south of Réunion Island.
Sea-news.az reports President Emmanuel Macron stated that the operation was conducted in full compliance with international maritime law, over 450 nautical miles off Réunion Island. The vessel is suspected of sailing under a fraudulent flag and participating in illicit fuel transport.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called for sustained pressure on the “shadow fleet” ahead of the EU foreign ministers’ meeting. He proposed drafting a 22nd package of sanctions against Russia and organizing an international conference dedicated to addressing the “shadow fleet” in Paris later this autumn.
