The sinking of the vessel near the port of Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus was caused by water ingress into the hull.

Sea-news.az reports that this was disclosed during a court session, citing the “Kıbrıs” newspaper.

According to the report, water entered the ship’s compartments through doors that had been left open, causing the vessel to lose stability and sink.

A total of 267 people were on board at the time of the disaster. Of these, 239 people were rescued, 18 died, and 10 remain missing.

It was also stated in court that the sunken vessel’s “black box” has been sent to Türkiye.
