China has set a world record for the number of simultaneously operating underwater drones during a pool-based test.
Sea-news.az reports citing the South China Morning Post (SCMP), that a Chinese team set a world record for the highest number of simultaneously operating autonomous underwater drones. More than 100 small robots were launched into the water during the trial.
The record was set by a team from Northwestern Polytechnical University. The achievement was officially entered into the Guinness World Records under the category of “most underwater vehicles operated simultaneously.”
A total of 116 “TH-618” autonomous underwater vehicles were deployed during the test. The drones were launched in a pool measuring 50 meters in length and 20 meters in width.
The autonomous underwater vehicles navigated along a predetermined route for 34 minutes. Utilizing real-time data, they successfully executed group autonomous underwater navigation.
