Footage showing the greening of stones around Lake Boyukshor has circulated on social media.

Sea-news.az reports that the State Water Use and Protection Control Service under the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan stated in response to an inquiry regarding the video footage on social media that the incident is not new.

According to the information, the matter was recorded by the Service’s employees on August 14, and a public statement was issued on the same day.

As a result of observations and laboratory studies, it was determined that the green color in the lake stems from a biological process related to the intensive growth of algae and cyanobacteria. High water temperatures, intense solar radiation, as well as the presence of nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus in the water, create favorable conditions for the development of these organisms.

It was reported that samples were taken from the lake by the Service’s Central Laboratory and relevant analyses were conducted. The results confirmed that the green color is of biological origin.

“The footage currently circulating on social media depicts an incident recorded and already investigated on August 14. The matter remains under control, and appropriate measures will be taken if necessary,” the Service stated.
