On September 18, the Somali Navy rescued the 18-member crew of a cargo ship that was taking on water and ran aground.

Sea-news.az reports citing “Seanews.az”, that the vessel named “Jacuar” (IMO 9181821) was sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The ship was carrying 7,007 tons of cargo and traveling from Mozambique to Egypt.

According to the information, the crew members consisted of citizens of India, Syria, and Egypt.

Somalia’s Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport did not disclose the cause of the incident. Although some media outlets reported that the ship had capsized, this information has not been officially confirmed.

It is noted that in recent years, Somalia has increased its efforts to expand the capabilities of its Navy and strengthen maritime security.
