The US military has destroyed two cutters belonging to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) with a missile strike after they attempted to seize a US Navy unmanned maritime vessel.

Sea-news.az reports that this information was confirmed by Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for the United States Central Command (CENTCOM).

According to Captain Tim Hawkins, although Iranian small vessels recently attempted to capture the US drone, this objective failed following a decisive retaliatory strike by CENTCOM forces, and the device remained entirely under the command’s control.

Regarding the incident, Iranian media advanced a conflicting claim, alleging that the vessels struck were actually fishing boats and that several fishermen went missing.

Following the mounting tensions, the US official pointed out that US Navy vessels have begun escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz not only during nighttime hours as they had in recent weeks, but during daytime hours as well.
