An oil tanker has struck a maritime mine and burst into flames in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Sea-news.az reports citing statements released by the Navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC/SEPAH), that the stricken vessel has been identified as the tanker Alqaya. Emergency containment and firefighting operations deployed to the scene have reportedly yielded no results, leaving the ship ablaze.
The IRGC emphasized that it had previously issued repeated warnings to commercial and regional shipping traffic regarding the severe security risks of navigating the affected maritime corridor.
