An oil spill has been recorded at a facility belonging to Mexico’s state-owned oil company, Pemex, in the Gulf of Mexico.
Sea-news.az reports citing local authorities, that the leak occurred along a pipeline network. Following the incident, an emergency response protocol was activated, involving specialized teams to forecast the spread of the oil slick and conduct continuous environmental monitoring in the area.
The Mexican government has implemented its emergency response plan. Several specialized vessels and 255 military personnel have been deployed to assist Pemex with containment, recovery, and cleanup operations. Efforts to completely stop the leak and secure the site are currently underway.
Preliminary projections suggest that the likelihood of the oil slick reaching the coast or ecologically sensitive areas remains low. However, experts warn that an approaching cold front forecast to enter the region in the coming days could alter wind and current patterns, potentially shifting the drift direction of the spill.
Specialists emphasize the importance of closely monitoring the situation over the next ten days to mitigate any shifting environmental risks.
