Iran warns South Korea against deploying military forces to the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has issued a stern warning to South Korea, stating that Seoul could face serious consequences if it deploys military forces to the Strait of Hormuz or participates in military operations in the region.

Sea-news.az reports that Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei conveyed the warning via a post on the social media platform X.

Baghaei noted that relations between Iran and South Korea span over 64 years and have traditionally been grounded in principles of mutual respect.

“Iran attaches great importance to its friendly relations with the Republic of Korea. However, at a time when the Iranian nation is fighting against U.S. aggression and responding decisively to U.S. military crimes against Iranian women and children, any military presence or participation in operations by other countries in the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz cannot be interpreted as anything other than direct support for aggression. This step will entail serious consequences,” Baghaei stated.

The Iranian diplomat further emphasized that responsible and sovereign states must not yield to U.S. pressure and blackmail.

“Responsible and sovereign nations must not bow to U.S. pressure and blackmail, nor should they participate in criminal plans and acts of aggression directed against the great Iranian nation,” he noted.

Tehran’s official statement comes amid ongoing discussions regarding the potential military involvement of South Korea in security arrangements within the Strait of Hormuz.
