France and Greenland expand cooperation in tourism and scientific research
France and Greenland have signed two declarations of intent aimed at broadening bilateral cooperation in the fields of tourism, culture, and scientific research.
Sea-news.az reports that the documents were signed with the participation of senior officials from both France and Greenland.
A primary objective of the tourism partnership is to foster the development of a sustainable tourism model in Greenland that prioritizes and safeguards the interests of local communities.
Currently, approximately 100,000 tourists visit Greenland annually. With the ongoing expansion of airport infrastructure and the rising popularity of Arctic cruises, a significant increase in tourist arrivals is anticipated.
French Tourism Minister Serge Papin emphasized the critical importance of striking the right balance between developing the tourism sector and protecting Greenland’s fragile polar ecosystems.
Alongside tourism, the parties signed a separate declaration of intent designed to deepen collaboration in cultural preservation and scientific research.
French officials described the signed documents as a concrete step forward in strengthening ties and expanding long-term cooperation between Paris and Nuuk.
