The United States Navy has carried out a four-month covert operation to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz.
Sea-news.az reports this, citing information from the Financial Times (FT) publication, which references its sources.
According to the report, the U.S. Navy deployed special operations divers, robotic surface craft, and specialized underwater systems to ensure the safe movement of vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical international maritime trade routes.
During the operation, small combat engineering teams utilized inflatable boats under the cover of darkness to search for mines. Once discovered, explosive devices were attached to the mines and safely neutralized in place.
It was reported that no personnel casualties were recorded over the course of the four-month clandestine operation.
The Strait of Hormuz is widely regarded as one of the most vital maritime corridors for global shipments of oil and other energy carriers, making the preservation of navigational safety in the channel a matter of paramount importance for global energy supply stability.
