Turkeys naval power increases

Specialists from Turkey’s “ASELSAN” company, together with engineers from the “SEFINE” shipyard, have equipped locally produced “MARLIN” uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) with a naval mine-laying system.

Sea-news.az reports that the new system enables the release of “MALAMAN” “smart” mines from the vessel in autonomous mode or via remote control. Turkey’s naval munitions of this type operate at depths of up to 100 meters, possess low observability, and are equipped with a “friend-or-foe” identification system and combined sensors to destroy enemy ships.

The project to integrate the “smart” mine deployment system into “MARLIN” uncrewed surface vessels has been carried out over the past year under the auspices of the Presidency of Defense Industries of the Turkish Presidential Administration.

During trials, the vessel performed mine-laying in a designated maritime sector both in autonomous mode and via remote control.

The goal of the project is to ensure a low level of risk, operational flexibility, and a high degree of confidentiality in future naval operations, which will be a crucial factor in increasing the effectiveness of the Turkish Naval Forces.
