The service workers’ trade union organization in Germany has announced a 24-hour warning strike at six of the country’s sea ports.

Sea-news.az reports that the strike, starting this evening, will cover the ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Bremen, Wilhelmshaven, Emden, and Brake. Approximately 11,000 port workers are expected to join the strike. “Ver.di” is demanding an 8.2% wage increase over a 12-month period, or an hourly wage increase of at least €2.50.

Meanwhile, employers’ latest offer included a 5.1% wage increase, an additional €300 vacation allowance, and a €460 increase in employee benefits, with the proposed agreement spanning 19 months.

Workers rejected this proposal by a large majority. The trade union deemed the offer unsatisfactory, specifically pointing to the 19-month duration of the contract and the proposed increase for lower-wage groups.
