Ecological and logistical crisis

The water level in the Danube River in Bulgaria has once again broken historic lows, and navigation on the river has effectively been paralyzed.

Sea-news.az reports that only individual vessels are setting sail, taking on half their normal cargo load to avoid running aground.

Although the ferry connection between Bulgaria and Romania continues in the area of the city of Nikopol, serious restrictions have been applied there as well. Along the entire length of the river from Vidin to Silistra, dozens of new shallow areas and islands have formed.

In the Belene area, it is possible to cross the river on foot in some places. Meanwhile, the water temperature has risen to 29 degrees. According to the Danube Exploration Agency, the water level has decreased by another five centimeters in the past 24 hours.
