Oman has proposed the creation of a new regional mechanism based on a voluntary payments system that would ensure collective control over the Strait of Hormuz.
According to sea-news.az that this project, based on the experience of the Malacca Strait, envisages the voluntary financing of navigation, environmental protection, and search and rescue services by vessels, and excludes Iran’s sole control over the strategic strait.
According to Bloomberg, the issue of reopening the part of the Strait of Hormuz called the “middle corridor” was also discussed in the negotiations between the parties. Sources state that Oman is optimistic about the prospects for an agreement and expects progress to be achieved in the coming days.
Analysts emphasize that the successful conclusion of these negotiations could also lay the groundwork for the resumption of ceasefire talks between the US and Iran.
