In response to a joint statement by France and the United Kingdom regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has reiterated its warning against potential military activities by Western countries in this strategic corridor.
According to sea-news.az citing Al-Hadath TV, this was announced by Irans Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi.
Gharibabadi noted that as the country responsible for and the guarantor of the security of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran warns against any foreign military movement in the area. He emphasized that the responsibility for ensuring the security of the strait lies solely with the littoral states.
Furthermore, the Iranian diplomat added that the Strait of Hormuz is not a military exhibition ground for extra-regional forces, and that parties attempting to create tension in the region will be held responsible for the consequences.
This statement follows the announcement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron that Oman has agreed to cooperate with London and Paris to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains open. They declared that the strait is of vital importance to the global economy and that the restoration of safe navigation for all countries’ vessels is a priority for the international community.
According to reports, the United Kingdom and France are preparing to establish a joint military mission to prevent the future closure of the strait.
It should be noted that the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately one-fifth of global oil shipments pass, was closed during a period of peak tension between Iran, the United States, and Israel, causing fuel prices to rise in global markets. The strait was reopened for shipping this June following a ceasefire agreement reached between Tehran and the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, the Iranian side maintains that it will retain a leading role in the management of the strait and continues to uphold its position regarding the implementation of a “service fee” for the regulation of vessel traffic.
