“To protect against heatstroke and other harmful effects during the beach season, people should go to the sea during hours when sunlight is less intense.”

According to sea-news.az this was stated by Zakir Guliyev, a medical expert and therapist at the Ministry of Health, during a live broadcast on the Ministry’s official Instagram account.

According to him, the safest times to go to the sea are between 08:00–11:00 in the morning and 16:00–19:00 in the evening:

“The intensity of ultraviolet (UV) rays is at its highest, especially between 11:00 and 16:00. Staying outdoors for long periods during these hours significantly increases the risk of heatstroke, sunburn, and long-term skin damage. While at the beach, it is important to rest in the shade, consume plenty of fluids, choose light-colored, lightweight, and breathable clothing, and use wide-brimmed hats and UV-protected sunglasses. Also, sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher should be applied to the skin about 20–30 minutes before going out to the beach and reapplied every two hours, as well as after swimming.”

Z. Guliyev emphasized that children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with cardiovascular diseases should strictly avoid staying directly under the sun during the hottest hours of the day.

“Following these simple rules significantly reduces the risk of heatstroke and helps ensure a safer summer season,” the expert added.
