Today, in the Neftchala district, where the Kura River meets the Caspian Sea, 400,000 sturgeon fry were released into their natural habitat.

According to sea-news.az which cites the Public Relations and Information Provision Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, the process was carried out based on a public-private partnership with the participation of the state-owned “Khilli Fish” LLC.

The key indicators of the campaign, held to protect the biodiversity of the Caspian Sea, are as follows:

Current year’s statistics: To increase fish stocks in the country’s water basins, a total of 600,000 sturgeon fry, weighing between 2 and 10 grams, have been released into the water this year.

The start of the campaign: This ecological project was launched on May 22 of this year — International Day for Biological Diversity — with the release of 2,000 fish into the sea in Neftchala.

The main purpose of these measures is to restore the stocks of endangered sturgeon species and contribute to the preservation of the sea’s ecological balance.
