As part of the preparations for the 2026 spring-summer season, the Republican Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health conducts regular monitoring to assess compliance with sanitary norms and rules at beaches used for public recreation across the country, as well as the quality indicators of sea water.

According to sea-news.az this was stated in a report by the Ministry of Health.

It was reported that sea water quality control measures have been carried out on a monthly basis since the beginning of the year. Since May, the intensity of the monitoring has been increased and is continuing on a weekly basis. Collected sea water samples are analyzed in the laboratories of the Republican Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology based on physical-chemical and microbiological indicators.

During the recreation season, sea water samples are additionally studied in the relevant laboratories of the Center for Control of Specially Dangerous Infections for the purpose of monitoring specially dangerous infectious diseases.

Based on the results of the conducted laboratory tests, it was determined that chemical and microbiological indicators in sea water samples taken from certain areas did not comply with the requirements of current sanitary norms and regulations.

During the monitoring, deviations from normative requirements in sea water quality indicators were recorded as a result of the pollution of sanitary protection zones with waste and sewage waters at the beaches located in Turkan in the Khazar district, Hovsan in the Surakhani district, Shikh in the Sabail district, and Sahil settlement in the Garadagh district of Baku city, as well as Ashaghi Nuvedi settlement, Sutamurdov village, Kichik Bazar residential area of Lankaran city, and Niyazoba area of the Khachmaz district.

Taking into account the current situation and with the aim of protecting public health, the Republican Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology has adopted decisions to temporarily restrict the use of sea water for swimming purposes at the beaches located in the mentioned areas, as well as at illegal beach zones within those sectors, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Sanitary-Epidemiological Safety.”

Regarding the execution of these decisions, the Baku City Executive Power, Lankaran City Executive Power, Khachmaz District Executive Power, relevant police bodies, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and its regional bodies, as well as the respective structures of the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan, have been informed.

The Ministry of Health advises citizens to use only authorized beaches, pay attention to official reports, and comply with the established restrictions.

Monitoring by the state sanitary service will continue throughout the beach season, and the public will be regularly informed about the results.
