US intelligence agencies believe that Iran has the capability to close the Strait of Hormuz at any time, and this potential provides Tehran with significant leverage to influence the global economy.

Reportedly, although an agreement between the parties to keep the strait open is planned to be signed on June 19, Iran demonstrated its ability to block this strategic maritime route during the recent conflict. US intelligence suggests that official Tehran could use these capabilities as a means of pressure in the future as well.
One of the sources stated to the TV channel that against the backdrop of the current situation, control over the strait has virtually shifted to Iran: “This is a means of pressure more powerful than any nuclear weapon. The war has fundamentally changed Tehran’s approach to using such leverage,” the text noted. It should be noted that the Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most critical maritime routes for global energy supplies. A memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran regarding keeping the strait open is expected to be signed on June 19.
