The United Kingdom has announced it will deploy drones, fighter jets, and naval assets as part of a new international defense mission aimed at ensuring the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
This was stated by UK Defence Secretary John Healey during an online meeting with more than 40 defense ministers participating in the mission.
According to the minister, the deployment will include unmanned mine detection systems, a minesweeper vessel, high-speed boats, Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets, and the HMS Dragon destroyer.
He emphasized that the initiative is a defensive, independent mission based on international cooperation.
The UK already maintains more than 1,000 military personnel in the region under existing operations, including anti-drone units and fighter squadrons.
In its next phase, the UK contribution will be supported by $155.53 million in funding to expand mine-clearing capabilities and strengthen defenses against drone threats.
News agencies report that London is seeking to maintain confidence in the safe and free navigation of commercial shipping amid rising regional tensions.
