A US Navy formation deployed near Iran consists of more than 20 warships, according to information published by the US Naval Institute’s news service.
The report states that two aircraft carriers — USS Abraham Lincoln and USS George H. W. Bush — are conducting combat patrols in the Arabian Sea.
In addition, the deployment includes three large amphibious assault ships, 13 guided-missile destroyers, two littoral combat ships, and several minesweepers. One additional destroyer is also participating in operational activities.
These forces are being used in US Central Command (CENTCOM) operations aimed at monitoring and restricting the movement of Iran-linked commercial vessels in the Gulf region.
According to CENTCOM, since the beginning of the blockade, 62 Iran-affiliated commercial ships bound for or departing Iranian ports have been intercepted.
The command also reports that tanker movements carrying more than 166 million barrels of oil, with a total value exceeding $13 billion, have been restricted.
