Since April 1, an expeditionary group consisting of specialists from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC (Port of Baku), and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has been monitoring the Caspian Sea. The main purpose of the monitoring carried out by the research vessel named after the National Hero of Azerbaijan Alif Hajiyev is to determine the impact on the Caspian Sea and its environment, and to assess the current environmental situation. According to Amrakh Damirov, an HSE specialist at the Port of Baku, who took part in the monitoring team, samples of soil, water, bottom sediments, zooplankton, and benthos have already been taken from six oil and gas fields and part of the Astarachay river flowing into the Caspian Sea. The monitoring is scheduled to be completed on April 10 at 16 oil and gas fields and two river basins.

Port of Baku, which is one of the state-of-the-art ports on the Caspian Sea and a regional logistics center, and received the status of “Green Port” for the first time in the region, pays great attention to its activities, protection, and development of ecosystems, by regularly implementing projects and programs with the participation of international and local organizations.
