The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced that explosions and a fire occurred aboard a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this morning.
Sea-news.az reports that two explosive devices attached to the tanker’s hull by a small boat detonated, triggering a fire in the engine room and causing the vessel to temporarily lose propulsion and steerage.
It was reported that the crew members are safe and unharmed, with no environmental damage recorded. The fire has been extinguished, and the tanker is currently underway toward a port of refuge.
Responsibility for the attack has not yet been officially disclosed.
It should be noted that Iran has recently intensified attacks against commercial shipping, particularly along the southern maritime transit corridor monitored by the U.S. Navy.
