A Level-4 emergency response has been declared in Shanghai as well as Zhejiang and Fujian provinces in eastern China due to Typhoon Champi, the 30th typhoon of the year.

Sea-news.az reports that Typhoon Champi is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the aforementioned regions from October 23 to 26. The typhoon is currently moving northwest over the Pacific Ocean towards the northeastern coast of Taiwan Island at a speed of 15-20 kilometers per hour.

According to forecasts from China’s National Meteorological Center, Champi will enter the southern part of the East China Sea late at night on October 23 before steering northward. On October 24, the typhoon is expected to turn northeast near the eastern coast of Zhejiang Province. However, the possibility of the typhoon making landfall on the northeastern coast of Taiwan Island has not been ruled out.

China’s State Control Headquarters for Floods and Drought Relief, along with the Ministry of Emergency Management, have dispatched work teams to the affected regions to assist with and guide emergency preparedness. All relevant authorities have been advised to closely monitor the storm situation, use forecasts and early warning systems to guide actions, strengthen coordination, and execute preventive and response measures in line with established emergency plans.

Notifications have been issued to ensure fishing vessels return to ports and to evacuate marine aquaculture workers.
