The number of American warships in the Middle East could surpass 24 as Washington prepares for potential new strikes against Iran.
Sea-news.az informs, citing “The Wall Street Journal” (WSJ), that this was stated by sources familiar with the plans of the US military command.
According to the publication, two US Navy aircraft carrier strike groups, comprising approximately 20 warships, are currently positioned in the region.
The arrival of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and its escort vessels is also anticipated. Should the deployed forces remain in the region, the total number of American naval vessels will exceed twenty.
WSJ sources claim that the US military is formulating plans for renewed strikes against Iran. Additionally, on October 19, Israel presented several potential attack targets to the head of the Pentagon.
Meanwhile, White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly informed the publication that the US does not plan to launch strikes on Iran ahead of the mid-term congressional elections scheduled for November 3.
