In January-September of this year, the volume of cargo transported by sea reached 6 million 671.5 thousand tons.
Sea-news.az reports that this represents a decrease of 291.4 thousand tons, or 4.2%, compared to the same period last year. Oil products accounted for 39.5% of total cargo. During the 9-month period, the number of passengers transported by sea grew by 2,600 people, or 13.5%, compared to the corresponding period of 2025, totaling 21.9 thousand passengers.
In the reporting period, economic entities operating in Azerbaijan’s transport sector transported 183 million 72.9 thousand tons of cargo, with maritime transport accounting for 3.6% of the total. Between January and September 2026, Azerbaijan’s transport sector served a total of 1 billion 771 million 305.6 thousand passengers, marking an increase of 156 million 793 thousand passengers, or 9.7%, compared to the same period of the previous year.
