A new strategic project aimed at expanding container transport capacity in the Caspian Sea has officially commenced. Baku Shipyard has initiated the construction of two next-generation container vessels, each with a capacity of 780 TEU.

Sea-news.az citing Avtosfer.az that transport expert Rauf Agamirzayev noted that existing vessels operating in the Caspian—”Berkut,” “Barys,” and “Sunkar”—each carry a capacity of 350 TEU.

The new vessels will offer 2.23 times the capacity of current ships. The project is being executed through a partnership between AZCON Holding and AD Ports Group. The keel-laying ceremony for the first vessel has already taken place, with both ships scheduled for delivery by 2028. This development plays a vital role in advancing the Middle Corridor and strengthening Azerbaijan’s position as a regional logistics hub.
