Eight Egyptian sailors held hostage aboard a vessel in Somalia have been released.

Sea-news.az reports that this was announced by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is noted that the sailors had been held hostage on the vessel “MT Eureka” off the coast of Somalia’s Puntland region since May 2.

The vessel was hijacked at that time off the coast of Yemen’s Shabwah Governorate. According to the Yemen Coast Guard, armed individuals boarded the vessel, seized control, and steered it through the Gulf of Aden toward the Somali coast.

No details were provided regarding the hijackers.
