More than 30 military personnel have been questioned in connection with the deaths of Kazakh servicemen in the Caspian Sea.

Sea-news.az reports with reference to “Sputnik Kazakhstan” that this was announced by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan.

It was reported that the supervisory authority inspected the scene, and documents along with video materials were seized. A total of 12 forensic medical examinations have been ordered regarding the incident.

The Prosecutor General’s Office stated that officials suspected of negligence in office are being identified, as well as persons suspected of failing to exercise proper control over personal safety considering weather conditions, failing to take necessary measures, and improperly organizing rescue operations that led to loss of life.

“The investigation will provide a full legal assessment of all circumstances, and procedural measures will be taken against all suspects in accordance with the law,” the Prosecutor General’s Office noted.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan announced that the criminal case is being investigated under two articles: negligence and violation of vessel navigation rules.

It is worth recalling that on September 24, during exercises in the Caspian Sea, a water current swept away 19 Kazakh military personnel.

In connection with the deaths of the servicemen as a result of the incident, September 25 was declared a day of national mourning in Kazakhstan.
