Moldova’s parliament will hold an emergency session on September 22 to discuss the declaration of a state of emergency in the country’s energy and hydrological sectors.

Sea-news.az reports citing information distributed by “NewsMaker” with reference to the “European Pravda” newspaper, that this was stated by Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.

The speaker noted that government representatives will appeal to parliament regarding the declaration of a state of emergency. According to him, the government will present all arguments related to this, and urgent decisions must be made to ensure the population is supplied with energy, water, and fuel.

“All means must be utilized to make it possible to supply the population with energy, water, and fuel,” I. Grosu stated.

The government is also expected to hold a meeting prior to the parliamentary session.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu previously announced that a state of emergency could be declared in the country’s energy and hydrological sectors. According to her, the government must be ready to respond flexibly to unforeseen situations.

M. Sandu stated that urgent decisions regarding fuel supplies must be made, and appropriate measures should be taken if the drop in the water level of the Dniester River or the rise in fuel prices continues.

During the summer months, Moldova faced difficulties in electricity production due to the water level of the Danube River dropping to a critical threshold in neighboring Romania, as well as a decrease in the water level of the Dniester River, which is the country’s main water source.
