World Shipping Council publishes report on cargo inspection results across seven countries

Sea-news.az reports citing Seanews.az, that the World Shipping Council (WSC) has presented its report covering the results of 93,079 cargo inspections conducted in seven countries in 2025. The document stated that safety deficiencies were at a high level.

According to the report, deficiencies were detected in 9,645 inspections, accounting for 10.36 percent of the total indicator. The problems were primarily related to documentation, marking and labeling, improper packaging of cargo, and failure to secure it properly.

According to WSC data, such deficiencies can increase the risk of cargo damage, container loss, and fires on board vessels. The council also cited statistics from the Allianz insurance company, noting that, on average, a fire occurs on a container ship every 17 days.

Between 2017 and 2025, the average rate of deficiencies in cargo inspections exceeded 9 percent. Over the past three years, this figure has increased, exceeding 11 percent in 2024, with the three-year average standing at 10.9 percent.
