UK introduces sweeping new legislative package to tighten sanctions on Iran’s financial, maritime, and trade sectors

The British government has introduced a robust new set of legislative measures significantly hardening sanctions against Iran.

Sea-news.az reports citing TASS, that UK Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty announced that the expanded restrictions will directly target Iran’s commerce, shipping, and industrial networks.

“These financial measures will further restrict the Iranian government’s ability to access the UK financial system and raise funds in support of its nuclear program. This legislation expands trade prohibitions covering additional goods, technologies, and services,” Doughty stated.

According to the official, the new restrictions encompass core sectors contributing to Iran’s industrial escalation, alongside closely linked activities such as commercial shipping, marine insurance, and banking services.

Doughty also announced export bans on a wide array of additional goods and technologies vital to the development of Iran’s conventional military capabilities and nuclear ambitions.

Furthermore, subject to specific humanitarian and technical exemptions, the legislation introduces a formal ban preventing Iranian aircraft from landing within the United Kingdom.

The British government emphasizes that these new measures are specifically designed to dismantle the financial pipelines funding Iran’s nuclear and military expansion.
