Kazakhstan is actively collaborating with the European Commission to include the Trans-Caspian “green” energy corridor project in the official list of Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI).
Sea-news.az reports citing a statement from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy in response to an inquiry by Report’s Kazakh bureau, that the green energy development and transmission initiative between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan stands as a cornerstone of trilateral energy cooperation.
The comprehensive feasibility study for the project is currently underway, with completion scheduled for January 2027.
Italy’s leading international consulting firm, CESI, has been appointed to draft the study. The approximate cost of 1 million euros for the feasibility assessment is fully funded through grants provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
To bolster international backing and integration, Kazakhstan initiated discussions with the European Commission to secure PMI status for the corridor. Once the study is finalized, the project’s core technical parameters and financial models will be officially established.
This cross-border partnership builds upon a concrete foundation established on June 1, 2025, when Azerenergy ASC, KEGOC, and the National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan signed the foundational agreement to establish the “Yasil Dehliz Birliyi” LLC (Green Corridor Union LLC) to oversee the realization of the Central Asia–Azerbaijan Trans-Caspian green energy corridor.
