A new island has formed in the Caspian Sea as a result of declining water levels.
Sea-news.az reports citing the Lada.kz news outlet, that aerial footage has captured this unusual newly formed landmass.
According to the publication, the newly emerged island—named “Ribachy”—is located in the northern basin of the Caspian Sea, approximately 30 kilometers from the village of Bautino in Kazakhstan’s Mangistau Region and about 500 meters east of Svyatoy Island.
Experts note that over the past 4 to 5 years, the continuous receding of water in the northern part of the sea has regularly exposed new dry land. Such formations are particularly noticeable around the islands of Kulalı, Morskoy, Svyatoy, Podgornı, Uşaral, Mayakşıkkan, and Dolgiy, which serve as key habitats for Caspian seals.
Specialists point out that the primary inhabitants of these islands are wolves, while wild boars and badgers are also found in the area. Furthermore, the surrounding islands and coastal waters support a diverse array of bird and fish species.
High-altitude footage of the newly formed island has been captured, clearly illustrating the significant impact of the falling Caspian Sea levels on the region’s geography.
